About Toronto Metropolitan University
Toronto Metropolitan University is a public university in downtown Toronto with ~46,000 students, known for applied business, engineering, and media programs.
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), formerly Ryerson University, is a public university located in downtown Toronto, Canada. Founded in 1948 as a technical institute, it became a fully degree-granting university in 1993 and adopted its current name in 2022. It enrolls more than 46,000 students across undergraduate and graduate programs.
TMU's strongest programs are concentrated in business, engineering, computer science, and media. The Ted Rogers School of Management is ranked first in Ontario for undergraduate business education and sits steps from Toronto's financial district, enabling close ties with employers such as RBC and Deloitte. The Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science offers civil, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering degrees with mandatory co-op streams, and computer science ranks in the 301–350 band globally in the QS subject rankings. TMU also operates Zone Learning, Canada's largest university-based incubator network.
The university occupies an urban campus in the core of downtown Toronto, with buildings integrated into the city grid rather than a traditional enclosed campus. Its location gives students direct access to Canada's largest job market and a highly multicultural city. In Maclean's 2026 Canadian university rankings, TMU placed 10th overall among comprehensive universities and first in Canada for student services.

Formerly Ryerson University. Located in downtown Toronto — excellent access to Canada's largest job market. Strong programs in technology, business, journalism, and media. Popular with Nepali students.
- TMU's co-op and work-integrated learning programs in business, engineering, and technology give Nepali students Canadian work experience before graduating, which directly strengthens eligibility for a three-year Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), a key pathway to Canadian permanent residency.
- The International Student Leadership Award (ISLA) offers up to $10,000 at entrance for eligible international students with an 86% or higher average, and the President's Entrance Scholarship offers $10,000 per year (renewable) for students averaging 90% or above, meaningful financial relief given international fees of CAD $36,800–$42,500 per year.
- Toronto's large South Asian community means Nepali students have access to familiar cultural spaces, food, and community networks from day one, reducing the adjustment barrier common in smaller Canadian cities.
- TMU's Ted Rogers School of Management and engineering programs have strong employer networks in Toronto's financial and tech sectors, giving graduates from Nepal a competitive entry point into the Canadian job market without relocating from the city where they studied.
