About Nagoya Institute of Technology
Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech) is a Japanese national university founded in 1905, specialising in engineering and technology education in Nagoya.
Nagoya Institute of Technology (NITech), known in Japanese as Meikodai, is a national university of technology founded in 1905 and located in Gokiso-cho, Showa-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. With approximately 5,770 students, it focuses almost exclusively on engineering, offering undergraduate and graduate programs across five disciplinary clusters: Life Science and Applied Chemistry, Physical Science and Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Architecture, Civil Engineering and Industrial Management Engineering.
NITech sits in the heart of Japan's manufacturing and automotive corridor, the same region that hosts Toyota, Denso, and a dense network of precision manufacturers. The university's graduate employment rates are consistently strong, with graduates widely recruited by regional and national industrial firms. The Graduate School of Engineering offers Master's and Doctoral programs, and the university holds 95 student-exchange partnerships and 106 research partnerships with institutions globally.
The campus is an urban facility in Nagoya, one of Japan's third-largest cities, with direct access to high-speed rail connections to Tokyo and Osaka. NITech operates dedicated international student housing (the Cosmo Village and International House), an Education Center for International Students, and a privately-financed scholarship program offering monthly stipends to enrolled international students.

For Nepali students
- NITech's engineering focus aligns directly with the most common study goals of Nepali students pursuing STEM degrees in Japan, particularly in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Applied Chemistry, fields with strong graduate employment prospects in Japan's industrial sector.
- Annual undergraduate tuition at NITech (from FY2026) is approximately ¥642,960 (around USD 4,200), making it significantly more affordable than private Japanese universities, and MEXT Government Scholarship recipients are fully exempt from application, admission, and tuition fees, a major avenue for Nepali students given Nepal's inclusion in MEXT Embassy Recommendation rounds.
- Japan's Engineer/Specialist visa allows international STEM graduates to switch from a student visa to a work visa upon employment, providing a clear post-study work pathway; engineering graduates from NITech are well-positioned given the university's direct ties to Nagoya's automotive and precision manufacturing industry.
- On-campus accommodation at NITech starts from ¥30,000 per month (approximately USD 200), keeping total living costs in Nagoya substantially lower than in Tokyo, which reduces the financial burden for Nepali families who must fund studies from remittance or personal savings.
