About the Scholarship
The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships (GOI-IES) are administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) of Ireland. About 60 scholarships are awarded annually across all participating Irish universities.
The programme is designed to attract talented non-EU students — including from Nepal — to Ireland's higher education system and build long-term educational ties.
What's Covered
A EUR 10,000 stipend for one academic year, plus full tuition fee waiver for that year. The award is non-renewable and only covers a single year of study, even if your degree programme is longer.
If you are doing a 2-year Master's or longer programme, you will need to fund the remaining years from other sources (university scholarships, savings, NRB loan).
Eligibility for Nepali Students
Nepali citizens are eligible as non-EU/EEA students. You must have an offer of admission (conditional or unconditional) to a participating Irish HEI — Trinity College Dublin, UCD, UCC, NUI Galway, DCU, University of Limerick, Maynooth, TUS, ATU, NCAD, RCSI, and others.
You must be commencing a new programme — bachelor's, master's, or PhD — at the Irish institution. Current students or those upgrading degrees at the same institution are not eligible.
How to Apply from Nepal
Apply directly to your target Irish HEI for admission first. Once you have an offer letter, the HEI's international office will nominate you for the GOI-IES — you do not apply to HEA directly.
Each HEI runs its own internal selection and submits a shortlist to HEA. Final awards are announced by HEA in May–June. Plan to apply for admission no later than December–January to be considered.
