About the Scholarship
The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is funded by the Government of Japan and administered by the World Bank. It targets mid-career professionals from developing countries who want a development-related Master's degree and plan to return home to contribute.
Nepal is on the eligible developing-country list. The programme funds study at a list of participating Master's programmes that changes each year and spans universities in the United States, Japan, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.
What's Covered
The scholarship pays full tuition, basic health insurance through the university, and a monthly living stipend whose amount varies by host country. It also covers a round-trip economy airfare plus a US$600 travel allowance per trip.
Funding lasts for the length of your programme or two years, whichever is shorter.
Eligibility for Nepali Students
Nepali citizens are eligible as long as they do not also hold the citizenship of a developed country. The defining requirements are professional: at least three years of recent paid work in a development-related field, earned after your bachelor's degree, and current full-time employment in development work.
Your bachelor's degree must have been completed at least three years before the deadline, and your chosen Master's must be development-relevant.
How to Apply from Nepal
First gain unconditional admission to one of the participating Master's programmes. The university then shortlists you and sends the link to apply; you cannot start the scholarship application on your own.
Submit one online application during the correct window (either January to February or March to May, depending on your programme) with two recommendation letters, proof of work experience, diplomas, your CV, and your admission letter.
