About Hiroshima University
Hiroshima University is a leading Japanese national research university, ranked QS #441-450 globally (2025), with a distinguished history of rebuilding and international engagement since its original campus was destroyed in the 1945 atomic bombing. Today located on a new campus in Higashihiroshima (25km east of Hiroshima city), the university has become one of Japan's most internationally active national universities — hosting over 15% international students and operating a wide portfolio of English-medium graduate programs across science, engineering, education, and medical sciences.
Hiroshima University's global engagement reflects the city's unique history as a peace symbol — the university is a leading institution for peace studies and international cooperation research. Its science and engineering programs are strong in materials science, biotechnology, and information science. The university actively offers MEXT and HU-specific international scholarships, and its location in western Japan's Chugoku region provides access to the Hiroshima-Osaka-Kobe industrial corridor while maintaining lower living costs than Tokyo.
