About Kyoto University

Kyoto University is Japan's second-ranked university and has a distinct research-first reputation — it has produced more Nobel laureates than any other Japanese university and is globally recognized in physics, chemistry, and life sciences. The Graduate School of Informatics offers English-taught master's and PhD programs in computer science, mathematical analysis, and intelligent systems, all of which are competitive targets for Nepali applicants with strong academic backgrounds.

Like other national universities in Japan, Kyoto University charges the standardized JPY 535,800 per year tuition, making the all-in cost extremely low compared to Western destinations. Kyoto as a city is cheaper than Tokyo and Osaka, more walkable, and has a strong international student community. For research-focused Nepali master's and PhD applicants, Kyoto is arguably Japan's most attractive academic home.
