About the Scholarship
The NL Scholarship, recently renamed from the Holland Scholarship, is co-funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education and dozens of participating Dutch universities. It is one of the few Netherlands-wide scholarships open to Nepali students, since the Netherlands does not run a single national fully funded programme for international degree students.
Search either name when researching, as many university pages still say Holland Scholarship.
What's Covered
The award is a one-time grant of €5,000, paid during your first year of study. It is a partial contribution toward your costs rather than a full-tuition scholarship.
You will usually combine it with personal savings, an NRB-approved education loan, or a separate university scholarship to cover the rest of your tuition and living costs.
Eligibility for Nepali Students
Nepali citizens qualify because the scholarship is reserved for non-EEA students. You must be applying for a full-time Bachelor's or Master's at a participating institution and must not already hold a degree from a Dutch institution.
Each university adds its own academic requirements and may limit how many NL Scholarships it awards, so check the specific programme page.
How to Apply from Nepal
There is no central application. First apply for admission to a participating Dutch programme, then submit the NL Scholarship application through that university, usually opening around 1 November.
Deadlines vary by university and degree, but 1 February and 1 May are common. Confirm the exact date and any extra documents on your chosen university's scholarship page.
