About TAFE SA

TAFE SA is an Australian education provider established in 2012. It provides vocational education and training in the state of South Australia.

TAFE SA (Technical and Further Education South Australia) is the state government's principal vocational education and training (VET) provider. Established as a statutory corporation in 2012, it operates approximately 30 campuses across Adelaide and regional South Australia, including nine metropolitan sites at locations such as Tonsley, Regency Park, and the Adelaide city centre. In 2024 it was awarded Large Training Provider of the Year at the Australian Training Awards and received maximum seven-year re-registration from ASQA (Australian Skills Quality Authority).

TAFE SA delivers certificate, diploma, associate degree, and bachelor-level programs across trades, hospitality, health, IT, construction, and creative industries. The Regency Park campus hosts the Le Cordon Bleu culinary institute and a purpose-built campus brewery, making it one of the few TAFE providers in Australia with on-site industry training facilities of that scale. It also operates the only government-owned English language (ELICOS) centre in South Australia.

TAFE SA has formal university pathway agreements with the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide, and Flinders University, allowing students to complete a diploma and then credit that study toward a bachelor degree at one of these partners. The institution draws international students from more than 70 countries and is registered on CRICOS (code 00092B), qualifying its courses for Australian student visa purposes.

For Nepali students

  • Adelaide consistently ranks as Australia's most affordable mainland capital city for cost of living, making TAFE SA a lower-cost entry point compared to institutions in Sydney or Melbourne, an important factor for Nepali students managing overseas study budgets.
  • TAFE SA's packaged pathway agreements with the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide, and Flinders University let Nepali students complete a one-to-two-year diploma and then transfer into year two or three of a bachelor degree, reducing overall degree costs and admission pressure.
  • Graduates of qualifying TAFE SA diploma or associate degree programs (minimum 92 CRICOS weeks of study in Australia) can apply for the Post-Vocational Education Work stream of the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), granting 18 months of open work rights in Australia, a strong foundation for gaining skilled work experience in fields such as IT, construction, and health that appear on Australia's skills shortage lists.
  • Adelaide has an active Adelaide Nepalese Student Association, giving Nepali students an established community network from arrival; South Australia as a whole hosts over 54,000 international students from more than 130 countries each year.
