About Victoria University

Victoria University is a dual-sector public university in Melbourne offering both TAFE and higher education, ranked 501–600 globally by Times Higher Education 2026.

Victoria University (VU) is an Australian public university based in Melbourne, established over 100 years ago and one of only six Australian institutions offering both higher education and TAFE (vocational) qualifications under the same roof. Its main campus is at Footscray Park in Melbourne's west, with additional campuses in the Melbourne CBD, Sydney, and Brisbane. Total enrollment stands at approximately 14,540 students, with 25% being international students from over 100 countries.

VU is particularly strong in sport science (ranked #6 globally by ShanghaiRanking 2025 and #43 by QS by Subject 2025), psychology (THE subject rank 251–300), and education. The university pioneered the VU Block Model, an award-winning teaching approach where students study one unit at a time in intensive blocks rather than juggling multiple subjects simultaneously, a format consistently rated #1 in Victoria for skills development and peer engagement by the national QILT survey. Business, nursing, engineering, and IT are among the most popular programs for international students.

VU holds a QS World University Ranking of 741 (2026) and a Times Higher Education ranking of 501–600 (2026). It is ranked #70 globally in the THE Young University Rankings among universities under 50 years old. The university has strong sustainability credentials, appearing in the top 100 globally for several UN Sustainable Development Goal categories in the THE Impact Rankings 2024.

For Nepali students

  • VU automatically assesses every new international undergraduate applicant for the VU Block Model International Scholarship, which offers 10%, 20%, or 30% off first-year tuition fees based on prior academic results, making it one of the few Australian universities where a scholarship is built into the standard application process rather than requiring a separate competitive round.
  • The VU Block Model's one-subject-at-a-time format suits students transitioning from Nepal's exam-heavy school system, as it allows full focus on one topic before moving to the next, which independent surveys rank #1 nationally for skills development outcomes.
  • Graduates on a student visa are eligible to apply for Australia's Post-Study Work visa (Graduate visa subclass 485), allowing 2–4 years of work rights in Australia depending on degree level and study location, strong pathways for Nepali graduates seeking international work experience before returning or seeking permanent residency.
  • With international undergraduate tuition for programs such as Business around AUD 33,000–35,000 per year (approximately USD 21,000–22,000), and the automatic scholarship reducing first-year costs by up to 30%, VU sits in the mid-cost tier among Melbourne universities, more affordable than Group of Eight institutions while still offering a globally ranked degree.
