About Breda University of Applied Sciences

Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) is a Dutch specialist university founded in 1966, enrolling ~7,000 students across hospitality, games, tourism, logistics, and creative media programs.

Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) is a specialist higher education and research institution founded in 1966, located in Breda, North Brabant, in the southern Netherlands. It enrolls approximately 7,000 students and draws about 27% of its student body from outside the Netherlands, representing over 100 nationalities. The university offers bachelor's and master's degrees and focuses on applied, practice-oriented education tied closely to industry partners.

BUas is internationally recognised for a narrow set of high-demand fields: hotel management, tourism and leisure, games and media, built environment, logistics, facility management, and data science and AI. Its Hospitality and Leisure Management programs are ranked #35 globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, placing it among the top specialist institutions in Europe for these fields. Programs are delivered in English and are designed with mandatory internships and real-world projects.

The BUas campus is compact and self-contained on a green site within Breda, a mid-sized city of roughly 185,000 people with good rail connections to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Antwerp. The city has a lower cost of living than Amsterdam or Utrecht, and the campus infrastructure includes student housing support, sports facilities, and a dedicated international student office.

For Nepali students

  • BUas is one of the few universities in the world ranked in the global top 35 for hospitality, tourism, and leisure management, fields where Nepali students with a background in trekking, hospitality, or event management can build directly on home-country experience. The games and creative media programs are also among the strongest applied programs in the Netherlands.
  • Non-EU international students, including Nepalis, are eligible for the BUas Bachelor Scholarship (€3,000 in year 1, €1,500 in subsequent years) and the Dutch government-funded NL Scholarship worth €5,000, reducing the effective cost of the first year meaningfully against the institutional tuition of approximately €12,500 per year.
  • After graduating from a Dutch university, Nepali students can apply for the Netherlands Orientation Year permit (zoekjaar), which grants up to 12 months of unrestricted work rights to seek employment, one of the most generous post-study work pathways in Europe and a significant advantage over comparable programs in Germany or France.
  • Breda's cost of living is lower than major Dutch cities; estimated annual living costs are around €18,000–€20,000, and the city's manageable size makes it easier for South Asian students to settle in compared to a large metropolitan campus.
