About Nyenrode Business University
Nyenrode Business University is the Netherlands' only private university, founded in 1946 on a 13th-century castle estate in Breukelen, holding Triple Crown accreditation.
Nyenrode Business University, founded in 1946 in Breukelen on the Vecht River, is the Netherlands' only private university. Established by major Dutch corporations including KLM, Unilever, Shell, and Philips to develop internationally minded business leaders, it received official university status in 1982 and holds B-Corp certification.
The university holds Triple Crown accreditation, AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA, a distinction achieved by fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide. Its flagship program is the English-taught Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and it offers a range of MBA, MSc, and executive education programs. In the Financial Times 2025 European Business Schools ranking it placed 60th, and its open executive education has ranked first in the Netherlands for 14 consecutive years.
The campus is set on the historic Nijenrode estate, featuring a 13th-century castle and 27 protected monuments across a large grounds on the Vecht River near Breukelen, about 20 km from Utrecht and 30 km from Amsterdam. With a student body estimated at fewer than 500, the university operates as a highly selective, residential institution where close industry contact is a defining feature.
For Nepali students
- Nyenrode's English-taught BSc in Business Administration is directly accessible to Nepali applicants who meet the IELTS 6.0 requirement, with no Dutch language needed, and the curriculum's emphasis on leadership and practical business skills aligns well with Nepali students seeking a career-ready degree in Europe.
- The Stichting Nyenrode Fonds revolving scholarship offers up to €10,000 per year for eligible students, which partially offsets the relatively high private-university tuition of roughly €24,000–€27,000 per year, comparable in cost to mid-tier UK institutions.
- Graduates from non-EU countries including Nepal qualify for the Netherlands Orientation Year permit, which grants up to 12 months of unrestricted access to the Dutch labour market after graduation, providing a concrete post-study work pathway in one of Europe's strongest economies.
- The very small student body and residential castle campus mean Nepali students receive close mentorship and direct industry network access rather than being anonymous in a large public university, an advantage for students seeking internships and employment with Dutch and European multinationals.
