About The Hague University of Applied Sciences

The Hague University of Applied Sciences is a Dutch public university of applied sciences with ~25,000 students from 125+ countries, focused on practice-based education.

The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) is a public university of applied sciences founded in 1987 and located in The Hague, the seat of the Dutch government and home to international institutions including the International Court of Justice. With approximately 25,000 students representing more than 125 nationalities, it is one of the most internationally diverse higher education institutions in the Netherlands. It operates across five locations including campuses in Delft and Zoetermeer.

THUAS organises its programmes across seven faculties covering Business, Finance & Marketing; IT & Design; Technology, Innovation & Society; Public Management, Law & Safety; Health, Nutrition & Sport; Social Work & Education; and Management & Organisation. The university offers ten English-taught bachelor's programmes, including International Business, European Studies, and Industrial Design Engineering, plus master's degrees through The Hague Graduate School. Six Centres of Expertise anchor applied research in areas such as Cyber Security, Health Innovation, and Governance of Urban Transitions.

As a hogeschool (university of applied sciences), THUAS emphasises practical, work-integrated learning rather than primarily theoretical research. Its location in The Hague gives students proximity to international organisations, NGOs, embassies, and multinational companies, creating a distinctive internship and networking environment. The university holds UNESCO Associated School status and participates in the Erasmus+ programme.

For Nepali students

  • The Netherlands grants a 12-month Orientation Year (zoekjaar) residence permit to non-EU graduates of Dutch universities, allowing Nepali students to seek work or start a business after completing their degree, one of Europe's more accessible post-study work pathways.
  • International undergraduate tuition at THUAS is set at the institutional rate of €10,164 per year (2025-2026), which is significantly lower than equivalent English-taught programmes in the UK, Australia, or the USA, making it a cost-effective option for Nepali families.
  • The English-taught International Business and European Studies programmes attract students from South and South-East Asia, and the campus community of 125+ nationalities means Nepali students are part of a genuinely multicultural cohort rather than a small minority.
  • THUAS's location in The Hague, headquarters of international courts, UN agencies, and multinational firms, is particularly relevant for Nepali students pursuing law, public policy, international relations, or business, where internship access to global institutions is a tangible advantage.
