Gyeongsang National University is a South Korean national university in Jinju, founded in 1948, with strengths in life sciences, agriculture, and engineering.

Gyeongsang National University (GNU) is a public national university located in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Founded in 1948 as Jinju Agricultural College, it became a fully national university in 1980 and is recognized as one of ten Flagship Korean National Universities. It operates across four campuses, two in Jinju (Gajwa and Chilam), one in Tongyeong, and one in Changwon, and comprises 12 colleges and 87 departments serving approximately 24,500 students.

GNU has established research strengths in applied life sciences, agricultural science, veterinary medicine, and aerospace and mechanical engineering. The university operates two university hospitals, and its College of Veterinary Medicine and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have been particularly prominent in research output, including internationally recognized work in biochemistry. Engineering programs spanning mechanical, chemical, and computer science disciplines are also core offerings.

The main Gajwa campus sits in Jinju, a mid-sized city in the south of the Korean peninsula known for its lower cost of living compared to Seoul or Busan. Times Higher Education places GNU in the 1201–1500 band in its 2026 World University Rankings, while QS places it in the 701–850 band globally and ranks one of its subject areas at 251–300 in 2026.

For Nepali students

  • Tuition fees for international undergraduates run approximately KRW 3.5–4.8 million per year (roughly USD 2,600–3,500), making GNU one of the more affordable accredited national universities in South Korea for Nepali students watching costs.
  • Nepal is a participating country in the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), which covers full tuition, a monthly living allowance, airfare, and Korean language training, GNU is a designated GKS host university, giving Nepali applicants a direct fully-funded pathway.
  • South Korea permits graduates on a student visa to apply for the D-10 job-seeking visa for up to one year after graduation, and those who secure employment can convert to an E-7 skilled worker visa, providing a realistic post-study work route for Nepali graduates.
  • GNU's programs in agriculture, life sciences, and engineering align with fields where Nepali students have historically qualified strongly, and the university's relatively small international student body (around 2%) means individual attention from international office staff rather than a crowded support system.
