Its name combines 'In' from Incheon and 'Ha' from Hawaii, reflecting its Korean-American founding collaboration under South Korea's first president Syngman Rhee. The university operates 11 undergraduate colleges and 9 graduate schools across approximately 70 departments, with a total enrollment of around 18,000 students.
Inha has a strong tradition in engineering and applied sciences, running about 60 research institutes covering aerospace engineering, marine engineering, biotechnology, and environmental science. Its engineering and business faculties are its most internationally recognised, and it is a member of the Global U8 (GU8) international university consortium.
