About Konkuk University

Konkuk University is a private research university in Seoul founded in 1946, ranked #=654 in QS World Rankings 2026, known for veterinary science and life sciences.

Konkuk University is a private comprehensive university located in Seoul, South Korea, founded in 1946 by Dr. Yoo Seok-chang. Its name reflects its founding mission, 'konkuk' means 'founding a nation', and it has grown into one of South Korea's larger universities with approximately 25,500 students across two campuses in Seoul and Chungju.

The university is organised into thirteen undergraduate colleges on its Seoul campus and is nationally recognised as a leader in agricultural and life science research. Its College of Veterinary Medicine is one of Korea's most prominent, and the Business School holds AACSB accreditation, a distinction shared by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide. Engineering, life sciences, and physical sciences programs each rank in the 401–500 band in Times Higher Education subject rankings.

The Seoul campus is served directly by Konkuk University Station on subway lines 2 and 7, making it accessible from across the city. A central lake and landscaped walking paths define the campus environment. The Sanghuh Memorial Library was once regarded as the largest university library in Asia.

For Nepali students

  • South Korea's D-10 post-study work visa allows graduates to remain and work for up to one year after degree completion, with pathways to longer-term employment visas, a concrete route for Nepali graduates in engineering, business, or life sciences.
  • Konkuk offers TOPIK-based tuition waivers for incoming international undergraduates: students with TOPIK Level 4 receive a 50% first-semester tuition reduction, and those with Level 5 or 6 receive 70% off, substantially lowering the first-year cost. Nepali students with prior Korean language preparation can use this immediately.
  • Annual tuition ranges from roughly KRW 8.9 million to KRW 12.5 million (approximately USD 6,600–9,200) depending on the college, placing Konkuk at a noticeably lower cost tier than comparable universities in the UK, Australia, or the US.
  • Konkuk participates in the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) programme, which is open to Nepali applicants and covers full tuition, airfare, a monthly living stipend, and health insurance for the duration of the degree.
