About Kyungpook National University
Kyungpook National University is a South Korean flagship public research university founded in 1946 in Daegu, ranked #=519 in QS World 2026.
Kyungpook National University (KNU) is one of South Korea's ten designated Flagship National Universities, established in 1946 in Daegu by consolidating colleges of education, medicine, and agriculture. The university operates 20 undergraduate colleges and schools, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and nursing, across four campuses in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, with a total enrolment of approximately 36,000 students.
KNU is particularly strong in engineering, computer science, and life sciences, with its graduate programs spanning data science, automotive engineering, international studies, and agriculture. It hosts 128 research institutes and consistently ranks among the top 15 universities in South Korea by QS metrics. In the THE Impact Rankings 2025, KNU placed 3rd globally for progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals, signalling internationally recognised research depth beyond simple citation metrics.
Daegu is South Korea's fourth-largest city, with a lower cost of living than Seoul or Busan. KNU's main campus sits in the Buk-gu district and is served by Daegu's metro network. The city has a substantial student population and is home to one of South Korea's largest textile and manufacturing clusters, creating internship and research linkages for engineering and business students.

For Nepali students
- Nepal is classified as an ODA (Official Development Assistance) recipient country, which qualifies Nepali applicants for a 10-point bonus under the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) scoring criteria, a fully funded government scholarship covering tuition, airfare, monthly stipend, and health insurance that KNU accepts.
- As a public national university, KNU's undergraduate tuition for international students runs approximately KRW 3.4 million to KRW 6.8 million per year (roughly USD 2,500–5,100 depending on the programme), making it substantially more affordable than comparable private universities in Seoul.
- South Korea's D-10 job-search visa allows international graduates to stay up to two years after completing their degree to seek employment, and KNU's engineering and IT programmes align well with Korea's high demand for technical talent in semiconductor, automotive, and software sectors.
- KNU's TOPIK Scholarship reduces tuition by 16–100% for students who pass the Korean language proficiency test, a direct incentive for Nepali students willing to invest in language preparation before or during their studies.
