Sogang University is a private Jesuit research university located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea, founded in 1960 by the Society of Jesus. It is the only Jesuit institution of higher education in South Korea, with approximately 11,800 students across 9 colleges and 27 undergraduate departments.
The university is particularly strong in business, its Sogang Business School holds AACSB international accreditation, and in engineering, with programs in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and System Semiconductor Engineering. Its Korean Language Education Center is widely regarded as one of the best Korean language programs in the country, drawing international students of all proficiency levels.
The campus covers about 60 acres in Mapo District, a central Seoul neighborhood with good subway access. Sogang maintains exchange partnerships with over 370 universities across 65 countries and ranks 8th domestically in the 2025 JoongAng University Rankings, making it one of South Korea's most selective private universities despite its relatively compact size.
