Public university in Seoul funded by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, founded 1918, known for urban science, planning, and engineering programs.

The University of Seoul (UOS) is a public research university established in 1918 and funded by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It operates 8 colleges with 39 departments and 10 graduate schools, enrolling approximately 11,600 students. Its campus covers roughly 67 acres in the Dongdaemun district of northeastern Seoul.

UOS is South Korea's leading institution for urban science, with nationally recognised programs in urban planning and design, transportation engineering, environmental engineering, landscape architecture, and geo-informatics. The College of Urban Science and the International School of Urban Sciences draw students and researchers from across Asia. The university also has well-regarded schools of law, taxation, and business administration, and it actively collaborates with Seoul city government on urban policy research.

The campus sits on a hillside in the Jeonnong neighbourhood of Seoul, adjacent to Cheonggyecheon stream parkland and within easy reach of the city centre by metro. UOS has exchange agreements with 393 universities in 62 countries as of 2024, reflecting a broad international academic network.

For Nepali students

  • UOS charges among the lowest tuition of any Seoul university for international undergraduates, roughly KRW 4.3–6.8 million per year (approximately USD 3,200–5,000), making it a genuinely affordable option compared to private universities in the same city.
  • Nepali students are eligible for the Government of Korea's Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), which covers full tuition, living allowance, and airfare; the Korean Embassy in Kathmandu allocates a dedicated quota for Nepali applicants each year.
  • South Korea's D-10 job-search visa and the E-7 skilled-worker visa allow international graduates to remain and work after completing a degree, providing a viable post-study pathway in a high-income economy.
  • UOS's urban planning, environmental engineering, and IT programs align well with Nepal's growing demand for professionals in infrastructure, urban development, and technology sectors, making the degree directly transferable in either market.
