Optional Practical Training (OPT)

For Nepali students
- International undergraduates are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $17,000 per year through the Global Excellence and Global Distinction Scholarship programs, making Boise State one of the more accessible US public universities for Nepali students with strong academic records (GPA 3.0+).
- Tuition for international undergraduates is approximately $28,478 per year (2025–2026), which is lower than flagship public universities in California, New York, or Texas, and a Graduate Gem Scholarship can waive around $18,000 of non-resident graduate tuition annually.
- Engineering, computer science, and health science graduates from STEM-designated programs are eligible for a 3-year OPT work authorization period in the US (1-year standard + 2-year STEM extension), providing a meaningful post-study work pathway after graduation.
- With only 355 international students out of 28,519 (about 1%), Boise State's international community is small, Nepali students should expect limited pre-existing community but may benefit from more direct faculty engagement in a less competitive admission environment.
