For Nepali students
- CMU's International Student Merit Scholarship awards $9,000 per year (automatic with a 3.0+ GPA on admission) directly reducing the annual out-of-state tuition of roughly $21,300, making net costs more manageable than at flagship research universities.
- F-1 visa holders at CMU are eligible for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation, extendable to 36 months for STEM graduates, giving Nepali students meaningful US work experience pathways under existing federal rules.
- The university accepts IELTS Band 6 and TOEFL iBT 70, lower thresholds than many US universities, which suits Nepali applicants who meet the standard but may not score at elite-school levels.
- CMU's health sciences and business programs are practically oriented with clinical placements and internship components, areas where Nepali students have historically shown strong demand for overseas study.
