About Community College of Allegheny County
Large community college in Pittsburgh, PA area. Strong healthcare, technology, and transfer programs.
Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) is a public two-year institution founded in 1966 under Pennsylvania's Community College Act. Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), it operates four campuses across Allegheny County, Allegheny (Pittsburgh North Shore), Boyce (Monroeville), North, and South, plus several neighborhood centers and a strong online presence.
CCAC offers more than 130 programs of study across nine career paths, with particular depth in Nursing and Allied Health (22+ associate and certificate programs), Business, Computer and Information Science, and liberal arts transfer tracks. Students can complete an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree designed for smooth transfer to four-year universities; CCAC holds articulation agreements with over 31 colleges, covering 165 programs, and its graduates have transferred credits to more than 500 institutions nationwide.
The college enrolls approximately 10,500 students (Fall 2023 data), the majority studying part-time. Its Pittsburgh-area location gives students access to one of the US's major healthcare, technology, and finance employment hubs, including employers such as UPMC, Carnegie Mellon University, and PNC Bank.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)
All graduates qualify for 12-month OPT. STEM-designated programs (CS, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Sciences) qualify for 24-month STEM OPT extension — 36 months total work authorisation.
For Nepali students
- CCAC's international undergraduate tuition is approximately $11,700 per year (flat rate of $5,850 per semester for 12–18 credits), making it one of the most affordable legal pathways to a US credential, typically one-quarter to one-fifth the cost of a four-year university.
- The Nursing, Allied Health, and Computer Information Science programs are strong fits for Nepali students targeting healthcare or IT careers, two of the most common professional paths pursued by Nepalis in the United States.
- As an F-1 visa-eligible institution, CCAC students can work on-campus during studies and qualify for Curricular Practical Training (CPT); graduates who transfer to a four-year US university and complete a bachelor's degree in a STEM field can then apply for OPT and the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
- The low per-credit tuition and open admissions model reduce financial and academic barriers, and completing two years at CCAC before transferring to a Pennsylvania State System university can cut total four-year degree costs substantially for budget-conscious Nepali families.
