About DePaul University

Large private university in Chicago, Illinois. Strong business, engineering, and liberal arts programs.

DePaul University is a private Catholic institution founded in 1898 by the Vincentian Fathers, and it is the largest Catholic university in the United States by enrollment. With approximately 17,838 students spread across two main Chicago campuses, Lincoln Park and the Loop, it offers nearly 300 undergraduate and graduate programs across seven colleges.

DePaul's strongest academic units include the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media, one of the largest computing-focused colleges in the Midwest, and the Driehaus College of Business with its Kellstadt Graduate School, whose graduate entrepreneurship program ranked #16 in the US by Princeton Review. The university also has well-regarded programs in liberal arts, education, and health sciences.

The Lincoln Park campus sits in a residential Chicago neighborhood, while the Loop campus places students directly in Chicago's downtown business district, providing direct access to internships, employer networks, and full-time roles across finance, technology, and consulting. DePaul is ranked #169 among National Universities in the 2026 US News Best Colleges edition and has an acceptance rate of approximately 74%.

For Nepali students

  • DePaul's Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media and its business analytics programs at Kellstadt are directly aligned with the technology and management fields most Nepali students pursue, and Chicago's dense employer base provides strong internship pipelines during study.
  • Undergraduate international tuition is approximately $45,200 per year, which is mid-range for a US private university; the DePaul Global Gateway Scholarship offers partial tuition relief for eligible international undergraduates, and a $12,000 Graduate Presidential Scholarship is available for select science and health graduate programs.
  • STEM-designated programs at DePaul qualify graduates for the 24-month OPT STEM extension on top of the standard 12-month OPT, giving Nepali graduates up to three years of US work authorization, a significant practical advantage when building post-graduation career experience.
  • International students make up 16% of DePaul's student body (~2,800 students), and Chicago has an established South Asian community, with DePaul's urban setting offering access to cultural and professional networks relevant to Nepali students.
