About Diablo Valley College
Community college in Pleasant Hill, CA (East Bay). Excellent transfer programs and technical training.
Diablo Valley College (DVC) is a public community college founded in 1949, located in Pleasant Hill, California, part of the Contra Costa Community College District. It enrolls approximately 17,000 students across two campuses, Pleasant Hill and San Ramon, and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC).
DVC is widely recognized for its transfer outcomes: it ranks #1 as a transfer source to UC Berkeley and Cal Poly Maritime, and #2 to UC Davis. Students can pursue Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) with articulated pathways to the University of California, California State University, and selected private universities. Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management is among its noted career-technical programs.
The college operates an International Students Academic Bridge program to support new F-1 students, and from Fall 2025 launched a 1+1+2 pathway that lets international students begin coursework online before completing one year at DVC and transferring to a top U.S. university. Students from approximately 90 countries are enrolled at DVC.

For Nepali students
- DVC's status as the #1 community college feeder to UC Berkeley makes it a strategic and cost-effective first step for Nepali students aiming for a University of California degree, at a fraction of four-year university tuition.
- International undergraduate tuition is approximately $10,728 per year (based on 24 units at $447/unit for 2026-27), making DVC significantly cheaper than most U.S. universities; total estimated annual cost including housing runs around $30,495.
- The 1+1+2 pathway (launched Fall 2025) allows Nepali students to start coursework from Nepal online, reducing early relocation costs and easing the transition before arriving on campus.
- F-1 students who transfer to a U.S. four-year university become eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT), up to 3 years for STEM graduates, giving Nepali students a post-study work pathway in the United States after completing their bachelor's degree at the transfer institution.
