About Evergreen Valley College
Community college in San Jose, CA. Strong transfer pathways and technical training.
Evergreen Valley College (EVC) is a public two-year community college founded in 1975, part of the San José–Evergreen Community College District and the California Community College System. Located on a 175-acre campus in the Evergreen district of East San Jose, it enrolls approximately 8,000 students and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC).
EVC offers over 40 programs spanning STEM, Business, Nursing, Allied Health, and Liberal Arts. The Nursing program holds separate accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and the college operates a Tesla START partnership program that trains automotive technicians directly for Tesla. Strong articulation agreements with UC and CSU campuses give students a structured transfer pathway, with 78% of EVC applicants admitted to UC campuses.
The campus sits at the base of the Diablo Range foothills in East San Jose, one of the most ethnically diverse parts of Silicon Valley. Facilities include a performing arts center, the Montgomery Hill Observatory, a fitness center, and dedicated STEM buildings. Its location in the heart of the technology corridor makes it a practical launchpad toward four-year degrees at nearby universities such as San Jose State, UC Berkeley, and UC Santa Cruz.

For Nepali students
- EVC's annual international tuition is approximately $10,296–$12,156 (including mandatory health insurance) for a full-time 12-unit-per-semester load at $429 per unit, significantly cheaper than most four-year US universities, making it an accessible entry point for Nepali students on a tight budget.
- The college's transfer pathways to UC and CSU universities are particularly valuable: 78% of EVC students who apply to University of California campuses are admitted, and Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T) guarantee admission to the CSU system with junior standing, reducing the total cost of a US bachelor's degree by two years.
- STEM, Business, and Nursing programs align well with the fields Nepali students most commonly pursue in the US. The Tesla START program offers a unique vocational credential with direct industry hiring pipelines in Silicon Valley, relevant for students open to technical careers alongside or instead of a transfer degree.
- International students on an F-1 visa can work on campus up to 20 hours per week (minimum 3.0 GPA required), and after transferring to a four-year university they become eligible for STEM OPT, which allows up to 3 years of post-graduation work authorization in the US, a key consideration for Nepali graduates seeking US work experience.
