About Florida State College at Jacksonville
Community college in Jacksonville, FL. Strong transfer and healthcare programs.
Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) is a public institution founded in 1965 and a member of the Florida College System. It operates across seven locations in and around Jacksonville, including Downtown, North, South, and Kent campuses, plus specialized centers for aviation, technology, and community instruction. With roughly 23,000 enrolled students, FSCJ is one of the larger access-focused colleges in Florida.
FSCJ primarily awards Associate in Arts (A.A.) and Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees, along with a limited range of bachelor's degrees. Health sciences is a flagship area, including competitive programs in registered nursing, dental hygiene, and radiography. The Cecil Center campus houses aviation training programs, and the college also runs the Culinary Institute of the South. The institution is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Jacksonville is Florida's largest city by area, located in the northeast corner of the state on the Atlantic coast. The city offers a low cost of living relative to other major Florida metros, a large healthcare employment market, and direct links to the University of North Florida and Florida State University for transfer students pursuing a four-year degree.

For Nepali students
- FSCJ's non-resident tuition of approximately $401 per credit hour (around $12,000 per year on a standard 30-credit load) makes it one of the more affordable accredited U.S. college options for Nepali students, with total annual costs (tuition plus living) estimated at roughly $24,000, substantially below most four-year universities.
- The A.A. degree at FSCJ is designed as a transfer pathway into Florida's state university system, meaning Nepali students can complete two years at FSCJ and then transfer to the University of Florida, Florida State University, or the University of North Florida to finish a bachelor's degree, reducing overall degree costs significantly.
- Health science programs such as nursing are in high demand in the Jacksonville job market, and OPT (Optional Practical Training) under an F-1 visa allows international graduates to work in the U.S. for up to 12 months after completing their degree, with a potential 24-month STEM OPT extension if they transfer to a STEM-classified program at a four-year university.
- Scholarships are explicitly listed as generally unavailable to international students at FSCJ, so Nepali students should plan for full self-funding or external scholarships; the relatively low tuition partially offsets this limitation.
