About Houston Community College

Large community college in Houston, TX. Strong transfer, healthcare, and technical programs serving Houston metro.

Houston Community College (HCC) is a public, open-admission community college system founded in 1971 and headquartered in Houston, Texas. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate degrees, and serves approximately 53,000 students each semester across six campuses and online.

HCC offers programs in over 100 fields of study, spanning health sciences, information technology, business, engineering technology, culinary arts, and liberal arts. Students can earn an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree designed for university transfer, or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree for direct workforce entry. HCC has a formal transfer pathway to the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD), where students can transfer up to 85% of AAS credits into a bachelor's program.

All six HCC campuses are located within the greater Houston metropolitan area, giving students access to one of the largest and most economically diverse cities in the United States. Houston is a major hub for energy, healthcare, aerospace, and logistics industries, which aligns directly with many of HCC's workforce and technical programs.

For Nepali students

  • HCC's out-of-state/international tuition is approximately $5,460 per year (at $227 per credit hour for 24 credit hours annually), making it one of the most affordable pathways to a U.S. education, well below the $25,000–$50,000 annual cost at four-year universities.
  • F-1 international students at HCC are eligible for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT), allowing them to gain U.S. work experience in their field of study both during and after their program.
  • HCC's university transfer pathways, especially to the University of Houston system, give Nepali students a cost-effective route to a U.S. bachelor's degree: complete two years at HCC, then transfer credits to a four-year institution at a fraction of the total cost.
  • Houston has one of the largest South Asian communities in Texas, and HCC's highly diverse student body (88% minority enrollment) means Nepali students will find a multicultural environment with established international student support services through the Office of International Student Services.
