About Irvine Valley College
Community college in Irvine, CA (Orange County). Strong transfer programs in tech-driven area.
Irvine Valley College (IVC) is a public two-year community college located in Irvine, California, accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC/WASC). Established as an independent institution in 1985, IVC serves approximately 13,000 to 15,000 students across credit and noncredit programs, including more than 430 international students from around 40 countries.
IVC offers over 80 associate degree programs and 60 career and technical certificate programs spanning arts, sciences, business, and technology. The college is particularly distinguished by its transfer outcomes: it ranked first among all 116 California community colleges for the rate of students transferring to four-year universities, and holds Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) agreements with six University of California campuses. In the 2022-2023 academic year, over 1,900 IVC students transferred to four-year universities, with around 1,000 going to UC or CSU institutions.
The campus is situated at 5500 Irvine Center Drive in Irvine, a city in Orange County, California known for its high median income and proximity to major technology and biomedical employers. IVC sits close to the University of California, Irvine (UCI), making it the leading community college feeder to that campus statewide. The college operates a dedicated International Student Program office providing F-1 visa advising, academic counseling, housing information, and transfer planning support.

For Nepali students
- IVC's #1 California ranking for university transfer rates means Nepali students who begin here with F-1 status have a statistically strong pathway to UC campuses, including UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and UC San Diego, at roughly half the cost of attending a four-year university directly.
- Annual international undergraduate tuition at IVC runs approximately $14,880 for a full-time 15-unit-per-semester load (2025-2026 rate of $496 per unit), making it one of the more affordable F-1 entry points into the California university system for cost-conscious Nepali families.
- Students on F-1 status are eligible for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) after transferring to a four-year institution, and STEM-designated programs at the receiving university can extend OPT to three years, providing a post-study work pathway in the United States.
- IVC's International Student Program provides dedicated immigration advising, enrollment support, and orientation services, which is practically useful for first-time international students from Nepal navigating the F-1 visa process and US academic system for the first time.
