About Ivy Tech Community College

Large community college system in Indiana. Strong workforce development and technical programs.

Ivy Tech Community College is the largest singly-accredited community college system in the United States, founded in 1963 and operating 41 locations across Indiana. With a total enrollment of over 200,000 students in the 2024-2025 academic year, it is the largest postsecondary public institution in Indiana. The college awards certificates, technical certificates, and two-year associate degrees across 75 academic programs.

Ivy Tech's strongest programs are in healthcare, information technology, business, and advanced manufacturing. The college is ranked first nationally for producing associate-level nursing graduates, and it operates the largest apprenticeship program in the country with more than 11,000 apprentices. Credits earned at Ivy Tech transfer to more than 100 colleges and universities across Indiana and beyond, including through a formal Transfer as a Junior (TSAP) pathway to all Indiana public four-year universities.

The Indianapolis campus is the largest in the system and sits in Indiana's capital city, which is a major Midwest hub for healthcare, logistics, and financial services employers. The college maintains active partnerships with over 2,500 statewide employers, giving students direct connections to the local job market. Ivy Tech is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

For Nepali students

  • Ivy Tech offers one of the lowest-cost pathways into the U.S. higher education system: international undergraduate tuition for full-time students runs approximately $9,936 per academic year (fall and spring semesters), making it significantly more affordable than most U.S. universities before room, board, and fees are added.
  • The Transfer as a Junior (TSAP) pathway allows students who complete an associate degree at Ivy Tech to transfer automatically to any Indiana public four-year university as a junior, potentially saving upward of $10,000 on a bachelor's degree, a practical route for Nepali students aiming for a U.S. bachelor's at a controlled cost.
  • Healthcare and IT programs are particularly strong at Ivy Tech and align with sectors where international graduates in the U.S. can pursue Optional Practical Training (OPT) after completing their degree, giving F-1 students up to 12 months of authorized work experience in their field of study.
  • F-1 international students are not eligible for federal or state financial aid, and no institution-level merit scholarships for international students are advertised; students must demonstrate proof of $31,714 in funds for the 2025-26 academic year before enrollment, so financial planning is essential.
