Liberty University is a private, non-profit evangelical Christian university founded in 1971 by Jerry Falwell Sr. in Lynchburg, Virginia. It operates 15 colleges and schools offering over 700 degree programs from certificate to doctoral level, and its total enrollment across residential and online programs exceeded 140,000 students in 2024-25.
The university is particularly known for its large-scale online education platform, which serves roughly 127,000 students globally and has grown over 33% since 2014. On campus, it offers programs in business, engineering, biomedical sciences, aviation, public health, nursing, law, and medicine, alongside its well-established divinity and ministry schools. Residential undergraduate tuition for 2025-26 is approximately $24,650 per year, with the university charging the same rate for in-state and out-of-state students, including international students.
The residential campus spans 7,000 acres in Lynchburg, in the Blue Ridge Mountains region of central Virginia. For Nepali students
- Liberty University charges the same tuition rate for international students as domestic students, approximately $24,650 per year in tuition (2025-26), which is lower than many U.S. private universities, making it a relatively cost-accessible option for Nepali students seeking a residential U.S. degree.
- The university offers a broad range of STEM-eligible programs in engineering, computer science, biomedical sciences, and aviation, which qualify graduates for the 24-month STEM OPT extension on top of the standard 12-month OPT, giving international students up to 3 years of post-study work authorization in the United States.
- Liberty's C. Daniel Kim International Student Center provides dedicated immigration advising, CPT/OPT processing, health insurance enrollment, and employment support, practical resources that reduce the administrative burden for Nepali students navigating F-1 visa requirements.
- The university's high acceptance rate (approximately 99%) and relatively accessible English proficiency thresholds (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 61) lower the admission barrier for Nepali applicants, though students should note the university has a strong evangelical Christian identity that shapes campus culture and many degree programs.
