About Manhattan College
Private Catholic university in New York. Strong business, engineering, and liberal arts programs.
Manhattan University (formerly Manhattan College) is a private Lasallian Catholic university founded in 1853, located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. With approximately 3,900 students and a 15:1 student-faculty ratio, it operates three academic schools: the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences, the O'Malley School of Business, and the School of Engineering. Average class size is around 18 students.
The School of Engineering is among the top 50 undergraduate engineering programs in the United States at institutions that do not award doctoral degrees, according to US News. The O'Malley School of Business and Kakos School of Arts and Sciences offer undergraduate and graduate degrees across disciplines including computer science, environmental engineering, finance, and education. The university was recognized in The Princeton Review's Best 390 Colleges for 2025.
The campus sits in Riverdale, one of the greener residential areas of New York City, approximately 35 minutes from midtown Manhattan by transit. This location gives students direct access to internships, industry contacts, and professional networks across one of the world's largest job markets. The university enrolls students from more than 60 countries, though international enrollment remains modest at around 4–5 percent of the total student body.

For Nepali students
- Manhattan University's School of Engineering, ranked among the top 50 undergraduate engineering programs at non-doctoral US institutions, offers Nepali students a well-regarded pathway into US engineering careers, with OPT allowing up to 12 months of US work experience after graduation (and up to 36 months for STEM graduates).
- Merit scholarships of $10,000–$25,000 per year are automatically considered at admission without a separate application, which meaningfully offsets the $50,400 annual tuition for competitive Nepali applicants maintaining a 2.5 GPA.
- The 78 percent acceptance rate makes Manhattan University more accessible than highly selective US universities, while still offering a New York City location and a structured, residential campus, a practical balance for Nepali students who want US degree recognition without the extreme competition of Ivy-tier admissions.
- With its Lasallian Catholic mission emphasising service and access, the university has historically welcomed students from developing countries; Nepali students can connect with New York City's broader South Asian community given the university's Bronx location near one of the most ethnically diverse urban centres in the world.
