About Montgomery College

Montgomery College (MC) is a public community college in Montgomery County, Maryland. The college has three campuses, the largest of which is in Rockville. Its other campuses are in Takoma Park/Silver Spring and Germantown.

Montgomery College is a public two-year community college founded in 1946, operating three campuses in Montgomery County, Maryland, Rockville, Germantown, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and serves nearly 60,000 students annually across credit and non-credit programs, with around 18,835 enrolled in credit programs as of Fall 2024.

The college offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs, with particular strength in liberal arts transfer pathways, STEM fields, allied health sciences (including accredited radiologic technology and physical therapist assistant programs), business, and paralegal studies. Its STEM Scholars honors program provides internship placements for academically strong students. Students from 160 countries are enrolled, and the college holds the federal AANAPISI designation (Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution), reflecting its demographic reach.

All three campuses are located in suburban Montgomery County, one of the most affluent counties in the United States, situated immediately outside Washington, DC. The Rockville campus is the largest and serves as the administrative hub. Montgomery College has formal articulation agreements with the University of Maryland, College Park through the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program (MTAP), which guarantees admission to UMD upon successful completion of qualifying associate's degree requirements.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

For Nepali students

  • Montgomery College is one of the most affordable US pathways for Nepali students: at approximately $489 per credit hour for non-Maryland residents (2026-27), a full-time academic year of 30 credits costs roughly $14,700, far below the cost of a four-year US university, making it a practical two-year entry point before transferring to schools like the University of Maryland, College Park.
  • The MTAP articulation agreement with UMD College Park gives Nepali students a structured, guaranteed transfer route into a top-50 US public research university, which is particularly valuable for those targeting STEM or business degrees at a lower upfront cost.
  • The college's AANAPISI federal designation and its student body drawn from 160 countries signals an established international and Asian student presence, including South Asian students, with a dedicated International Student Office providing F-1 visa support, CPT, OPT, and on-campus employment guidance.
  • F-1 students are eligible to work on campus during studies and can access Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation, giving Nepali graduates up to 12 months of US work experience, extendable to 36 months for STEM degree holders who transfer and complete a STEM program at a four-year institution.
