About Seattle Central College

Community college in Seattle, WA. Strong transfer and tech programs serving Seattle.

Seattle Central College is a public two-year community college located at 1701 Broadway in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood, part of the Seattle Colleges District. Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), it enrolls approximately 5,400 students and offers associate degrees, certificate programs, and a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree.

The college is particularly strong in college transfer pathways, with Associate of Arts, Associate in Business, and Associate of Science Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA) degrees that grant junior standing at Washington State universities upon completion. It ranks second in the state for the number of transfer students sent to the University of Washington each year. Specialized programs span biotechnology, culinary arts, maritime studies (through Seattle Maritime Academy), ASL interpreter training, and wood technology.

Seattle Central is recognized as the most diverse community college in King County. The Capitol Hill campus places students within walking distance of major Seattle employers, transit networks, and a dense technology and healthcare sector, which is practical for students pursuing internships or part-time work while studying.

For Nepali students

  • Seattle Central offers one of the most affordable pathways into a U.S. university education: international undergraduate tuition for college transfer programs runs approximately $11,700 per year (2026–27 rates), roughly one-third the cost of a typical four-year university, allowing Nepali students to complete two years here before transferring to the University of Washington or another Washington State school at junior standing.
  • The college's strong DTA transfer agreements with UW Seattle, a top-50 global research university, make it a credible two-plus-two route for Nepali students aiming at a bachelor's degree from a flagship institution without paying flagship tuition for all four years.
  • International students on F-1 status who graduate with a STEM-eligible associate or BAS degree can apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) under their sponsoring institution's SEVIS record; students who later transfer to a four-year university and graduate with a qualifying STEM bachelor's degree can access the 24-month STEM OPT extension, providing up to three years of U.S. work authorization.
  • Seattle Central serves one of the most ethnically diverse student bodies in the Pacific Northwest, with documented communities from South and Southeast Asia, giving Nepali students a culturally varied environment backed by dedicated international student advisors and immigration support services.
