About Seminole State College

Community college in Sanford, Florida. Strong transfer and technical programs.

Seminole State College of Florida is a public, open-access state college established in 1965, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The college operates four campuses in Seminole County, Sanford/Lake Mary (main), Altamonte Springs, Heathrow, and Oviedo, and served approximately 14,100 undergraduate students as of fall 2023.

The college awards Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, bachelor's degrees, and career certificates across fields including nursing, engineering technology, business, computer science, and liberal arts. Its Grindle Honors Institute provides enriched academic tracks, and the college has been named among the top 200 eligible institutions for the 2027 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence.

Seminole State's most distinctive feature is its DirectConnect to UCF program, which guarantees admission to the University of Central Florida for all students who complete an A.A. or A.S. degree at Seminole State. UCF ranks among the largest universities in the United States and is classified as a Research 1 institution, making this pathway a significant academic escalator for transfer-minded students.

For Nepali students

  • Seminole State offers one of the most affordable entry points into a U.S. bachelor's degree for Nepali students: annual international tuition (non-resident rate) is approximately $11,447, compared to $40,000–$60,000 at comparable four-year universities, allowing students to complete the first two years at much lower cost before transferring.
  • The DirectConnect to UCF guarantee means a Nepali student who earns an associate degree at Seminole State has a clear, contractual path to the University of Central Florida, a major Research 1 university, without competing in a separate transfer admissions process.
  • Graduates who complete a U.S. bachelor's degree after transferring from Seminole State to UCF become eligible for up to three years of Optional Practical Training (OPT) in STEM fields, providing post-study work rights in the United States, a critical consideration for Nepali students planning to gain international work experience.
  • The International Student Office at Seminole State provides dedicated F-1 visa advising, transcript evaluation guidance, and ongoing immigration support, reducing the administrative burden for Nepali students who are new to navigating the U.S. higher education system.
