About Skyline College

Community college in San Bruno, CA (San Francisco Peninsula). Strong transfer programs.

Skyline College is a public two-year community college founded in 1969 in San Bruno, California, operated by the San Mateo County Community College District. The college enrolls approximately 16,000 students (2023–24) and sits on a 111-acre suburban campus roughly 12 miles south of San Francisco.

The college offers more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs, with particular strength in STEM fields, health professions, and liberal arts designed for transfer. Twenty-nine of its programs are Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT), which guarantee admission with junior standing to the California State University (CSU) system. International students also have access to CPT and OPT internship placements in nearby Silicon Valley through the college's dedicated International Student Program.

San Bruno places Skyline College within easy reach of San Francisco, the Peninsula tech corridor, and major employers in the Bay Area. The college's Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) agreements cover more than 140 universities, including a pathway to UCLA through its Honors Transfer Program.

For Nepali students

  • Skyline College is a cost-effective entry point into a US credential: international undergraduate tuition and fees come to roughly $10,584 per academic year (12 units per semester at $441/unit for 2026–27), making total annual costs including living expenses around $32,500, significantly lower than most four-year US universities. This lower cost tier reduces the financial burden that Nepali students and families face.
  • The college's location adjacent to Silicon Valley gives F-1 students access to Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) at Bay Area tech and healthcare firms, providing real work experience that strengthens post-graduation employment prospects in the US.
  • More than 50 institutional scholarships are available to international students, awarded on academic merit, financial need, and other criteria; a single application is matched against all eligible awards, making the process accessible for newly arrived Nepali students.
  • Strong transfer pathways, including guaranteed CSU admission via ADT degrees and a UCLA Honors pathway, allow Nepali students to complete two years at community-college tuition rates and then move into a four-year US university, a well-established cost-saving strategy for this demographic.
