Southern Utah University (SUU) is a public university established in 1897, located in Cedar City, Utah. It serves more than 15,000 students and offers over 140 undergraduate programs and 19 graduate programs across six colleges and two schools, awarding associate, bachelor's, master's, and one doctoral degree (Doctor of Clinical Psychology).
SUU has broad program coverage across business, education, performing arts, engineering technology, science, and health. The university hosts the Utah Shakespeare Festival, a nationally recognized event that draws roughly 130,000 visitors each year, and its performing arts infrastructure benefits students in theatre and related disciplines.
Cedar City sits near several major national parks, Zion National Park is about 60 miles away, giving the campus an outdoor character that SUU markets as the 'University of the Parks.' The city is small (population around 35,000), which means costs of living outside campus are relatively modest compared to Utah's larger urban centres. SUU competes in NCAA Division I athletics and will rejoin the Big Sky Conference in 2026.
