About Suffolk County Community College
Large SUNY community college on Long Island, NY. Strong transfer programs serving Long Island.
Suffolk County Community College (SUNY Suffolk) is a public two-year institution in the State University of New York (SUNY) system, operating three Long Island campuses: Ammerman in Selden, Eastern in Riverhead, and Michael J. Grant in Brentwood. It is the largest community college in the SUNY system, with a total enrollment of approximately 19,973 students.
The college offers more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs spanning liberal arts, business, computer science, healthcare, engineering technology, culinary arts, and advanced manufacturing. Students who complete an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree can transfer to a SUNY four-year institution with junior standing through the SUNY smooth Transfer Initiative. A newly launched Honors Transfer Pathway with SUNY Geneseo guarantees admission to high-achieving transfer students.
SUNY Suffolk promotes itself as offering the lowest college tuition on Long Island, making it a cost-conscious entry point to a U.S. bachelor's degree. The Ammerman Campus in Selden, the primary campus, is located on Long Island approximately 60 miles east of New York City, a region with extensive public transit links and a large suburban population.

For Nepali students
- International F-1 students pay approximately USD 12,100 per year in tuition (USD 6,050 per semester at full-time enrollment), making SUNY Suffolk one of the most affordable accredited U.S. entry points, roughly one-quarter of the cost of a typical private university, allowing Nepali students to complete the first two years of a bachelor's degree at low cost before transferring to a SUNY four-year school.
- The SUNY smooth Transfer guarantee means Nepali students who earn an associate degree here and meet GPA requirements gain guaranteed junior-year admission to flagship SUNY institutions such as Stony Brook University or Binghamton University, effectively securing a U.S. bachelor's degree pathway from a fraction of the usual cost.
- F-1 students graduating with a STEM-qualifying degree are eligible for up to 3 years of Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the United States, providing a legal post-study work pathway; non-STEM graduates receive 12 months of OPT, giving meaningful work experience in the New York metro job market.
- The college's International Student Office on the Ammerman Campus provides dedicated advising, I-20 issuance, and ESL support, practical infrastructure for Nepali students arriving with varying English proficiency levels, and the tuition payment plan allows fees to be spread across three installments per semester, easing upfront cash-flow pressure.
