SUNY Geneseo is a public liberal arts college founded in 1871 and officially designated as New York's Public Honors College. Enrollment stands at approximately 4,051 students (Fall 2025), the large majority undergraduate, with a 15:1 student-to-faculty ratio and 93% of faculty holding terminal degrees.

It offers 63 undergraduate degree programs, 68 interdisciplinary minors, and houses one of only about 290 Phi Beta Kappa chapters in the country. Over half of 2023 graduates completed faculty-mentored research, supported by a $53 million Integrated Science Center.

For Nepali students

  • SUNY Geneseo's international undergraduate tuition is approximately $17,970 per year (2025-26), making total annual costs around $38,700 including housing and meals, significantly cheaper than most private universities in the US, which is an important factor for Nepali families with limited forex budgets.
  • Merit-based scholarships of up to $10,000 per year are available to international students and awarded automatically upon application, no separate scholarship application is required, which lowers the barrier for Nepali applicants unfamiliar with US financial aid processes.
  • The college's STEM and science strengths align well with common Nepali student interests in physics, biology, and pre-health tracks, and its strong record of producing graduates who go on to doctoral programs makes it a viable stepping stone for Nepali students aiming for US postgraduate study.
  • After completing a degree, Nepali graduates on an F-1 visa are eligible for 12 months of OPT (Optional Practical Training), with STEM graduates eligible for a 24-month STEM OPT extension, giving up to 3 years of US work authorization to build career experience before considering other visa pathways.
