Texas State University (TXST) is a public research university located in San Marcos, Texas, founded in 1899 originally as a teacher preparation institution. It now enrolls over 40,000 students across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, making it one of the larger public universities in Texas. Notable alumni include U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, who earned his degree here in 1930.
The university offers programs across disciplines including criminal justice, engineering, health sciences, business, communication, and the arts. Its School of Criminal Justice and Criminology is nationally recognized and home to the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT).
