Triton College is a public community college located in River Grove, Illinois, a suburb approximately 12 miles west of downtown Chicago. Founded in 1964 and opened in 1965, the college serves students from 25 towns and villages in Cook County's District 504. The institution enrolls more than 17,000 students annually and awards over 1,800 degrees and certificates each year.

Triton offers more than 150 associate degree and certificate programs spanning career, technical, and transfer-focused fields. The college has earned the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and is designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), reflecting a student body where over 40% identify as Hispanic. For Nepali students

  • Triton's international undergraduate tuition is $510 per credit hour (2025-2026 rate), making a full-time year roughly $15,300 in tuition alone, significantly lower than most four-year US universities, which is a practical advantage for Nepali families managing overseas education costs.
  • F-1 student visa support is available on campus, and international students completing an associate degree can transfer to partnering four-year institutions such as Illinois Tech under guaranteed-admission agreements, providing a cost-effective route to a US bachelor's degree.
  • As a community college, Triton does not require SAT/ACT scores for admission, which lowers the barrier for Nepali students who may not have taken those standardised tests. The college's large ESL program also provides academic English support for students who need to strengthen their language skills before entering degree-level courses.
  • F-1 students at Triton are eligible for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after completing their degree, allowing US work experience before or during transfer to a four-year program.
