About University of Denver
Private research university in Denver, Colorado. Strong business, engineering, and liberal arts.
The University of Denver (DU), founded in 1864, is the oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain West. It enrolls approximately 12,894 students across undergraduate and graduate programs on a 125-acre campus in Denver, Colorado, and holds a U.S. News & World Report national universities ranking of #121 (2025).
DU is best known for the Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs (formerly International Studies), which Foreign Policy Magazine ranks among the top 20 undergraduate programs in international studies globally. The Daniels College of Business is ranked in the top 100 undergraduate business programs by U.S. News, and its online MBA placed #10 in the Princeton Review. Other strong areas include law, social work, arts and humanities, and environmental sciences.
The university sits in a residential neighborhood of south Denver, roughly 20 minutes from downtown and within easy reach of Rocky Mountain ski resorts. At 5,280 feet elevation, the campus benefits from over 300 days of sunshine annually. The student-to-faculty ratio is 11:1, allowing relatively small class sizes for a research university.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

For Nepali students
- DU's Josef Korbel School is one of the most reputable programs in international relations and global affairs in the United States, making it a strong fit for Nepali students interested in diplomacy, development, or public policy, fields directly relevant to Nepal's geopolitical context.
- International undergraduate students are automatically considered for merit scholarships of $15,000–$40,000 per year upon admission, which meaningfully offsets the $63,720 annual tuition, though the total cost of attendance remains high at roughly $91,526 per year.
- Graduates in STEM-designated programs qualify for up to 36 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the United States, extending post-study work rights well beyond the standard 12 months and improving prospects for sponsorship pathways.
- Denver has a growing South Asian community and DU enrolls students from over 97 countries, so Nepali students are unlikely to be entirely isolated, though a dedicated Nepali student association presence at DU specifically should be verified before assuming community support.
