The University of North Texas (UNT) is a public research university located in Denton, Texas, about 35 miles north of Dallas–Fort Worth. Founded in 1890, it is one of the largest universities in the United States by enrollment, with approximately 47,000 students from more than 110 countries.

UNT is best known for its College of Music, which became the first university in the United States to offer a degree in jazz studies in 1947. The One O'Clock Lab Band has earned seven Grammy nominations, and the college hosts over 1,500 music students. Beyond music, UNT has strong programs in business, data science, engineering technology, and the visual arts through its College of Visual Arts and Design.

The main campus spans over 900 acres in Denton, a mid-sized city with a low cost of living compared to nearby Dallas. Denton has an active arts and live-music scene, and the campus is connected to the Dallas–Fort Worth metro by the A-train commuter rail, giving students access to major internship and employment markets.
