About University of Texas at Arlington
Public research university in Arlington, Texas. Strong engineering, business, and STEM programs.
The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is a public research university located in Arlington, Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Founded in 1895 and part of the University of Texas System, it enrolled over 42,700 students in Fall 2025, the largest class in its 130-year history, across more than 180 degree programs offered by nine colleges.
UTA holds Carnegie R1 classification, placing it in the top 5% of research institutions in the United States. Its strongest programs span engineering, nursing, architecture, and business: graduate engineering is ranked among the top 82 doctoral programs nationally by U.S. News, the nursing school's simulation center is one of six globally recognised Centers of Excellence by Laerdal Medical, and the Master of Architecture holds a rare STEM designation from the Texas State Board.
The main campus sits in suburban Arlington, directly between Dallas and Fort Worth, with easy access to one of the largest job markets in the US. UTA ranks #1 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for lowest graduate debt and best starting salaries (Wall Street Journal, 2025), and #222 nationally among U.S. universities (U.S. News & World Report, 2026 edition).

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

For Nepali students
- UTA has an established Nepali student community, approximately 237 Nepali students attend, representing about 6% of the university's 3,900+ international students, making it easier to find peer networks, cultural events, and on-arrival support.
- STEM-heavy programs in engineering, computer science, and nursing qualify graduates for the 24-month STEM OPT extension on top of the standard 12-month OPT, giving Nepali graduates up to three years of US work authorisation to gain experience in the DFW technology and healthcare job market.
- UTA offers merit-based scholarships open to international students, including the Presidential International Scholarship ($15,000–$25,000/year, renewable for four years) and the Maverick Academic Scholarship ($8,000–$12,000/year), which can substantially offset the approximately $27,500 annual tuition.
- At roughly $27,500 per year in tuition, UTA is considerably more affordable than many private US universities, and its position inside the DFW metroplex provides access to part-time on-campus employment and internship pipelines with major employers in technology, aerospace, and healthcare sectors.
