About University of Texas at San Antonio
Public research university in San Antonio, Texas. Strong engineering, business, and education.
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is a public research university established in 1969, located in San Antonio, Texas, the seventh-largest city in the United States. It is part of the University of Texas System and achieved record enrollment of more than 38,200 students in Fall 2025, reflecting sustained growth across undergraduate and graduate programs.
UTSA has built particular strength in cybersecurity, which spans three colleges, Business, Engineering and Integrated Design, and Sciences, and has been rated the top cybersecurity program in the nation by a Ponemon Institute survey of 2,000 IT security professionals. Its National Security Collaboration Center serves as headquarters for the Texas Cyber Command. The university also has growing programs in data science, engineering, health sciences, and business, and ranked #56 most innovative university nationally by U.S. News in 2026.
The main campus sits on 725 acres in the northwest of San Antonio, with a downtown campus close to the city's business and government district. San Antonio is a large, diverse metro with a significant tech and defense sector, and UTSA's location provides students access to internship and employment opportunities with major employers including Microsoft, Valero, USAA, and numerous federal agencies.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

For Nepali students
- UTSA's cybersecurity, computer science, and engineering programs are STEM-designated, making graduates eligible for the 24-month STEM OPT extension after graduation, giving Nepali students up to three years of US work authorization to gain experience and build a career before pursuing other visa pathways.
- At roughly $27,600 per year in tuition and fees for non-resident undergraduates (2025-26), UTSA is considerably more affordable than many US research universities, and U.S. News and Wall Street Journal both rank it in the top 25% nationally for value, an important factor for Nepali families managing international study costs.
- UTSA offers an International Student Grant and access to a broad Scholarship Hub for admitted students; while these are limited and competitive, the university explicitly supports international student financial navigation through its One Stop centre and Global Initiatives office.
- San Antonio's large and diverse population, combined with a growing South Asian student community in Texas, means Nepali students are less likely to feel isolated; the city's low cost of living compared to other major US metros further reduces the overall financial burden of studying here.
