About University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point

Public liberal arts university in Wisconsin. Strong education and natural resources programs.

University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) is a public university founded in 1894, part of the University of Wisconsin System. It enrolls approximately 8,263 students across its main campus in Stevens Point and branch campuses in Marshfield and Wausau. The university offers 80 bachelor's degree programs and 18 graduate programs, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

UWSP's College of Natural Resources is its signature academic unit, widely cited as one of the nation's leading undergraduate natural resource programs. It draws on the conservation legacy of Wisconsin figures such as Aldo Leopold and offers hands-on field programs in wildlife ecology, forestry, fisheries and water resources, and environmental science. The Sentry School of Business and Economics also receives recognition in US News undergraduate business program rankings.

The main campus occupies 406 acres in central Wisconsin and includes Schmeeckle Reserve, a 280-acre on-campus conservancy used for field research and outdoor education. In the 2026 US News Best Colleges rankings, UWSP placed 15th among regional public universities in the 12-state Midwest region and was rated among best-value schools in the Midwest.

For Nepali students

  • UWSP's College of Natural Resources and environmental science programs are a strong draw for Nepali students interested in ecology, forestry, or water resources, fields directly relevant to Nepal's environmental challenges and increasingly valued globally.
  • International undergraduate tuition is approximately $16,767 per year (2024–25 figure), which is notably lower than flagship US research universities, making UWSP a cost-accessible option for Nepali families. The university's best-value ranking in the Midwest reinforces this cost advantage.
  • F-1 students at UWSP are eligible for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation, extending to 36 months for graduates in STEM-designated programs such as environmental science and management, providing meaningful post-study work rights in the US.
  • UWSP does not offer full-tuition scholarships for international students, but its NextGen Scholarship Portal lists approximately 700 institutional scholarships, and EducationUSA advisors, a US Department of State network, can assist Nepali applicants in identifying additional funding sources.
