About Australian Catholic University
Australian Catholic University (ACU) is a public university in Australia. It has seven Australian campuses and also maintains a campus in Rome.
Australian Catholic University (ACU) is a public university established in 1991 through the amalgamation of four Catholic tertiary institutions in eastern Australia. It operates seven campuses across Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney, plus an international centre in Rome. The university is Commonwealth-funded and open to students of all backgrounds.
ACU's strongest disciplines are nursing and health sciences, education, theology, and psychology. Its Theology, Divinity and Religious Studies program ranked 18th globally in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject, its highest ever position. The university also ranks first in Australia and ninth globally for education research quality according to its own institutional statistics. All undergraduate courses include work placements, internships, or volunteering components.
The North Sydney campus is the university's main base and sits near Sydney Harbour. ACU enrolls approximately 29,800 domestic and 5,500 international students across its campuses. In the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, ACU placed in the 401–500 band, and in the 2026 QS World University Rankings it placed in the 851–900 band, an improvement on its 2025 position of 901–950.

For Nepali students
- ACU launched its Executive Dean's International Scholarship in 2025 specifically for students from Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, the package covers tuition support, travel, relocation, and visa fees for both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants starting from 2026, making it one of the few Australian university scholarships that explicitly names Nepal.
- ACU currently enrolls nearly 4,000 South Asian students, with around three-quarters in health-related degrees, nursing, midwifery, and allied health programs that align well with Nepal's strong demand for healthcare-trained graduates who also have Australian work experience.
- Australia's post-study work visa (Temporary Graduate visa, subclass 485) allows bachelor's graduates to work in Australia for 2–4 years after completing their degree, giving Nepali graduates meaningful time to recoup tuition costs and build professional experience before returning or pursuing permanent residency.
- Annual international undergraduate tuition at ACU ranges from approximately AUD 26,040 to AUD 43,784 (around USD 17,000–28,500), placing it at the lower-to-mid end of Australian university pricing, which combined with the South Asia scholarship opportunity makes it a relatively accessible option for Nepali families.
