About Central Regional TAFE
Central Regional TAFE is a Western Australian government vocational training provider with nine campuses across the Midwest, Goldfields, and Wheatbelt regions.
Central Regional TAFE (CR TAFE) is a Western Australian government TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institute, formed in April 2016 through the merger of Durack Institute of Technology, Goldfields Institute of Technology (Kalgoorlie campus), and CY O'Connor Institute (Northam, Merredin, and Moora campuses). It operates nine campuses spanning approximately 57% of Western Australia's landmass, with its main campus in Geraldton and additional sites in Kalgoorlie, Northam, Carnarvon, Exmouth, Moora, Merredin, and two specialist facilities in Geraldton.
CR TAFE offers certificate and diploma-level vocational qualifications, not university degrees, across eleven industry areas including commercial cookery and patisserie, nursing and individual support, early childhood education, information technology, community services, maritime and logistics, agriculture, and engineering trades. The Geraldton campus includes the Batavia Coast Maritime Institute, an award-winning maritime training facility. Course durations typically range from six to twelve months.
International students enrol through TAFE International Western Australia (TIWA), the single CRICOS-registered body (provider code 00020G) for all WA TAFEs. Tuition fees for international students start from AUD 6,276 per semester and vary by course. The institution is not ranked by global university ranking agencies as it is a vocational, not higher-education, provider.

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)
Eligible for Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) — 2 years for Bachelor/Master, up to 4 years in regional areas or for Science/Engineering/Education degrees.
For Nepali students
- CR TAFE's diploma and certificate programs in nursing, aged care (Individual Support), and early childhood education align directly with sectors where Nepali graduates can gain Australian work experience and qualify for skilled migration pathways after study.
- Eligible international students enrolling in 2026 can receive the WA Regional TAFE International Student Bursary of AUD 5,000 (paid across two semesters), which meaningfully offsets the cost of a one-year study package at Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, or Northam campuses.
- Australia's Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) allows graduates of CRICOS-registered courses to work in Australia post-study; CR TAFE courses delivered through TIWA (CRICOS 00020G) qualify students to apply for this visa, providing legitimate post-study work rights.
- Tuition fees starting around AUD 6,276 per semester make CR TAFE one of the more affordable CRICOS-registered pathways in Australia compared to private universities, which is relevant for Nepali students with mid-range budgets seeking Australian vocational qualifications.
