About Holmesglen Institute

Holmesglen Institute is a Melbourne-based TAFE and higher education provider founded in 1982, offering over 600 programs across six campuses to more than 50,000 students.

Holmesglen Institute is a Victorian government TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institution established in 1982, operating under CRICOS Provider Code 00012G. It has grown from serving 7,000 students across 90 programs to now offering more than 600 programs to over 50,000 students, making it one of Melbourne's largest vocational and higher education providers.

Holmesglen delivers qualifications ranging from certificates and diplomas through to bachelor degrees across nine broad study areas, including nursing, business, information technology, trades, hospitality, education, arts and design, sport and fitness, and environmental science. It is notable as the only institution in Australia offering upper secondary, vocational, and higher education on the same campus. Its Bachelor of Nursing program (introduced in 2009) and applied degrees in business and health sciences are among its most prominent higher education offerings.

The institute operates across six Melbourne-area locations: Chadstone, Moorabbin, Glen Waverley, a Bourke Street city campus used primarily for nursing, a North Melbourne electrical training site, and an Eildon rural outdoor campus. The main campuses are in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs, which are well-served by public transport. Holmesglen also hosts the Mackenzie Research Institute and the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation, supporting applied vocational research.

For Nepali students

  • Holmesglen's TAFE and bachelor-level programs in nursing, business, and IT are directly aligned with fields where Nepali graduates have strong post-study employment prospects in Australia, and graduates on student visas can access Australia's Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) for two to four years of post-study work rights.
  • International undergraduate tuition at Holmesglen is approximately AUD 20,750 per year (verified for the Bachelor of Business Accounting, 2025), which is substantially lower than most Australian universities, making it a more affordable pathway to an Australian bachelor degree.
  • Holmesglen offers the Holmesglen International Learner Scholarship (up to AUD 1,000) and the Peter Grundy Scholarship (AUD 1,000) for current international students in VET and higher education programs, with two application rounds per year, open to students from any country including Nepal.
  • The institute's TAFE-to-degree pathway structure means Nepali students who do not initially meet direct bachelor entry requirements can enter via a diploma and articulate into a degree, reducing the barrier to Australian higher education compared with research universities.
