The University of Canberra (UC) is a public university located in Bruce, in the Australian Capital Territory, established in its current form in 1990 after evolving from the Canberra College of Advanced Education (founded 1967). It enrolls over 18,000 students across five faculties, Arts and Design, Business Government and Law, Education, Health, and Science and Technology, drawing students from more than 100 countries.
UC is particularly strong in the health professions, with nursing, physiotherapy, optometry, pharmacy, and allied health programs underpinned by a purpose-built health precinct and the on-campus UC Hospital, which integrates clinical practice with education. Business, IT, and engineering programs are also well-regarded, with the university emphasizing applied, industry-connected learning and reporting a 90 percent graduate employment rate.
The campus sits in Canberra, Australia's capital city, offering proximity to federal government agencies, national research institutions, and a comparatively affordable cost of living relative to Sydney or Melbourne. UC ranked #=494 in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and in the 401–500 band in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026.

For Nepali students
- Nursing and allied health are among the most in-demand qualifications for Nepali students in Australia, UC's clinically integrated nursing degree and health precinct give graduates a direct pathway to Australian registered nurse status and, under Australia's post-study work visa rules, a two-year graduate visa (extendable for regional areas like Canberra) to gain local experience.
- The UC International Course Merit Scholarship offers eligible new international students 25% off total tuition fees, meaningfully reducing the annual cost from approximately AUD 33,000–34,000 for business or nursing programs.
- Canberra's relatively lower living costs compared to Sydney or Melbourne make it a more budget-conscious destination for Nepali families, and the city's heavy concentration of government and policy employers suits UC graduates from business, IT, and public administration streams.
- UC's strong graduate employment outcomes, ranked No. 1 in the ACT for full-time employment and skills development in the 2025 Graduate Outcomes Survey, mean Nepali graduates on a post-study work visa have a solid labor market to enter.
