About Western Sydney University

Western Sydney University is a public multi-campus university founded in 1989, ranked #1 globally for social impact four years running by Times Higher Education.

Western Sydney University (WSU) is a public research university established in 1989, with eight campuses spread across Greater Western Sydney including Parramatta, Campbelltown, Penrith, Bankstown, and a Sydney City campus. It enrolls approximately 47,000 students and offers more than 300 undergraduate and postgraduate programs across schools of Business, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Nursing, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences.

WSU is particularly strong in nursing and health sciences, engineering, and sustainability-focused disciplines. In the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject, the university secured top-100 global positions in Nursing and Development Studies, and Anatomy and Physiology climbed into the top 10 in Australia. For an unprecedented fourth consecutive year, WSU ranked first in the world in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which measure universities' real-world contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The university's campuses are concentrated in western and south-western Sydney, one of Australia's most diverse and fastest-growing regions. The Sydney City campus, located in the CBD, offers select programs for students who prefer an urban setting. WSU describes itself as globally focused and research-led, with students from more than 170 countries. It sits in the top 2% of universities worldwide according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 (band 301–350).

Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

Eligible for Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) — 2 years for Bachelor/Master, up to 4 years in regional areas or for Science/Engineering/Education degrees.

For Nepali students

  • Australia's Graduate Temporary Visa (subclass 485) entitles international graduates to 2–4 years of post-study work rights after completing a degree at WSU, making it practical for Nepali graduates to gain Australian work experience before or instead of returning home.
  • WSU automatically assesses all international applicants for merit scholarships at the time of application, no separate form required. The Western Sydney International Scholarship offers AUD 3,000–6,000 per year (up to three years), and the Vice-Chancellor's Academic Excellence Scholarship can cover 50% of tuition for high-achieving students, meaningfully reducing the cost of study.
  • WSU's campuses sit in western Sydney, home to one of Australia's largest South Asian diaspora communities; the Nepali student community in the region is active and growing, which eases cultural and social transition for new arrivals.
  • Annual international undergraduate tuition ranges from approximately AUD 26,240 to AUD 38,968 depending on discipline, placing WSU at a mid-tier cost point compared to the University of Sydney or UNSW, while its nursing, engineering, and business programs carry strong graduate employment links in the Greater Sydney labour market.
