About Beihang University
Beihang University is a Beijing-based public research university specialising in aeronautics, astronautics, and engineering, ranked #=388 in QS 2026.
Beihang University (formerly Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, BUAA) is a public research university in Beijing, China, founded in 1952 through the merger of aeronautical departments from eight leading Chinese universities. It is part of China's elite Project 985 and Project 211 initiative and is overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The university spans two campuses in Beijing and enrolls approximately 35,000 students across 30 schools.
Beihang is China's oldest and most prominent institution dedicated to aeronautics and astronautics education. Its strongest disciplines include aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, materials science, and automation, with growing programs in artificial intelligence and robotics. The university offers 57 bachelor's, 144 master's, and 49 doctoral program fields, and has earned over 1,264 national or ministerial-level science and technology awards.
The main Xueyuan Road campus is located in Haidian District, Beijing, China's primary technology and university hub. Its international graduate programs are delivered in English, making it accessible to non-Chinese speakers at the postgraduate level.
World University Rankings
For Nepali students
- Beihang is one of the few universities in the world with a dedicated focus on aerospace and aviation engineering, fields where Chinese industry offers strong graduate employment pathways, relevant for Nepali students targeting engineering or technology careers.
- The Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC), open to Nepali students through both the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu and direct university applications, fully covers tuition, accommodation, and provides a monthly stipend of RMB 2,500 (bachelor) to RMB 3,500 (PhD), making Beihang genuinely accessible without high personal funding.
- Undergraduate tuition for self-funded international students is approximately RMB 25,000–30,000 per year (roughly USD 3,450–4,140), considerably lower than comparable-ranked universities in the UK, Australia, or the US, and living costs in Beijing, while higher than other Chinese cities, remain moderate by international standards.
- Nepal and China share strong bilateral ties, and Nepal is among the eligible countries for CSC quota allocations each year; Nepali students already study at Beihang, particularly at the postgraduate level in engineering disciplines.
